Belagavi
MP and former Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar met Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in New Delhi to push for the transfer of identified civilian areas under the Belagavi Cantonment Board to the Belagavi City Corporation. The meeting centered on the long-pending handover of these civilian zones, earlier identified as per the Ministry of Defence’s directives, to enable integrated civic development in the city.
Shettar noted that a detailed proposal outlining the identification and transfer process has already been submitted by the Karnataka Chief Secretary to the Defence Ministry. He urged the Minister to expedite the procedural formalities to complete the transfer at the earliest.
He also highlighted Belagavi’s potential as a defence production hub and requested allocation of land and facilities to attract defence manufacturing industries, citing the city’s strategic location and industrial base.
In response, Singh assured full cooperation, promising to personally review the matter and initiate prompt action. He acknowledged the significance of the issue for Belagavi’s citizens.
Expressing satisfaction after the meeting, Shettar said the Defence Minister’s positive response marked a major step forward in resolving the long-pending demand.
