Major Tourism Push by Koppal DC Suresh B Itnal

Boost to Tourism

Koppal

Koppal’s Deputy Commissioner, Suresh B Itnal, has unveiled several key initiatives to boost tourism in the district. In a review meeting at his office, he directed officials to submit a revised proposal for acquiring 93.1 acres at Anjanadri Hills to implement first-phase works and support second-phase development. These include building theme-based stairways at the front and rear, a circular path, and a ropeway to enhance tourist access.

He instructed steps to secure a No Objection Certificate for 7 acres of forest land required for the projects. Additionally, he ordered the preparation of a heritage impact assessment report covering both phases and ropeway construction, estimating a cost of Rs 200 crore for developing the Anjaneyaswamy Temple complex.

Plans also include creating a museum at the old AC office building and restoring forts. Conservation efforts will focus on inscriptions at Gavi Mutt and Palkigundu, ancient mounds at Malemalleshwara temple and Morera hill, and monuments at Itagi Mahadev temple. A comprehensive development report for Hulikere is also underway.

Further, the Deputy Commissioner instructed the transfer of 35 guntas of land in Anegundi for establishing a youth training centre. He also directed the process to officially designate 20 monuments as state-protected sites—17 in the Hampi World Heritage area and 3 in Kanakagiri—strengthening cultural and historical tourism in the region.
