Women’s cricket in the East-Asia Pacific region is set for a landmark occasion as Fiji gets ready to host the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 East-Asia Pacific Qualifier from today at Albert Park.

Eight nations—Fiji, Cook Islands, Indonesia, Japan, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Samoa, and Vanuatu—will battle in the biggest-ever women’s cricket event in the region. Only one team will secure a place at the Global Qualifier in Nepal, scheduled for January 2026.

The Philippines will make history as their women’s side makes its ICC debut. The opening matches feature Fiji against Cook Islands and Japan against Papua New Guinea, with games spread across two grounds at Albert Park. The tournament will run until September 15, when the winner of the final will confirm their ticket to the global stage.

The qualifier carries special significance for Vanuatu. Their women’s team famously stunned Zimbabwe at the 2024 Global Qualifier, marking one of the region’s most memorable cricketing moments. Vanuatu captain Rachel Andrew expressed confidence that her side can once again rise to the challenge.

“The team is buzzing with excitement ahead of the qualifier,” Andrew said. “We have a strong mix of experienced players and young talent. Our aim is to build on our past success and push for another chance at the Global Qualifier.”
