Protests against child marriage

Child marriage is a punishable offense and if such instances are found, public have to protest, said Agriculture and District in-charge Minister BC Patil.

 He was speaking at the inauguration of the pledge of allegiance on Child Marriage as part of the International Women’s Day celebrations at the city’s Chitra Don Bosco Institute, a joint venture of the District Council, Zilla Panchayat, Women and Child Development Department, District Child Protection Unit and Chitra Don Bosco organisation.

Conducting marriages of girl under 18 years of age is a crime. Under 18 is a crime. The Central Government has approved the Act to increase it to 21 years and the regulations must be implemented. By 21, she will be able to complete her degree and academics and also physically and mentally fit.

The Pledge Acceptance Program on Child Marriage Prohibition is an innovative program that alerts and educates us. He said the government has organized a program to raise public awareness despite the law.

 Everyone knows that child marriage is an offence.  However, fathers and mothers continue to perform child marriage. But from the perspective of society and child health, it is a serious crime to live in an age where children are not aware of family, child bearing and child care.

On this background, it is very useful to raise awareness about child marriage. Increasing awareness about child marriage can prevent future disasters, he said.

 Child Marriage Prohibition campaign drive chariot inaugurated

 In keeping with the International Women’s Day celebration,  in association with the District Administration, Zilla Panchayat, Women and Child Development Department, the Chairperson of the Prohibition of Child Marriage, BC Patel, showed the green signal for the awareness chariot.

The Child Marriage Prohibition Campaign Chariot equipped with LED will be held from March 06 to March 23 and travels  in 90 selected villages in the district. From March 6 to 8, it will cover five villages every day in Chitradurga Taluk. Awareness campaign will be held in Chalakkere Taluk from March 9 to 11, Hiriyur Taluk from March 12 to 14, Holalkere Taluk from March 15 to 17, Hosurdurda Taluk from March 18 to March 20 and Monakalmur Taluk from March 21 to 23.

Deputy Director of Women and Child Development Department KS Rajanaik gave introductory speech.

Deputy Commissioner Kavita S Mannikeri, Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Dr K Nandinidevi, District Child Protection officer P Lokeshwarappa, Director of Chitra Don Bosco Father Joseph and others participated.
