Citizens demand action over misconduct of govt office

Raichur

Strong public outrage has erupted after allegations surfaced that a late-night liquor party was held inside the office of the Assistant Executive Engineer of the Panchayat Raj Engineering Department in Lingsugur.

According to local residents, retired employees and department staff allegedly gathered inside the government office consumed alcohol, turning a public office meant for citizen services into what critics described as a “private party space.” The incident has sparked serious concerns over discipline, accountability, and misuse of government property.

Citizens strongly condemned the alleged behavior, stating that government offices are funded by taxpayers and are meant solely for public service and transparent administration. Many questioned how such activities could take place inside an official workplace, calling it a clear violation of service conduct rules.

Public anger increased further after reports suggested that outsiders were allegedly allowed into the premises during the night. This raised concerns about the safety of important government records, technical documents, and sensitive files stored in the office.

Residents and activists pointed out that under Karnataka Civil Services Conduct Rules, government employees are expected to maintain discipline and ensure proper use of public property. Any form of alcohol consumption or unauthorized gatherings within government premises is considered misconduct.

Locals alleged administrative negligence on the part of Assistant Executive Engineer Hanumappa Adavani, claiming that such an incident could not have occurred without internal support or failure of supervision. They demanded immediate suspension of those involved and a thorough departmental inquiry.

Citizens have urged the district administration and higher authorities to take strict action to restore public confidence and ensure accountability in government offices. They warned that failure to act decisively would undermine trust in the functioning of public institutions.
