Delhi police arrest mastermind boxer murder case

New Delhi

Delhi Police Crime Branch arrested 38-year-old Sumit Rana, wanted in the July 2025 murder of national boxing champion Vikas Bhinda. He was on the run for eight months and had been declared a wanted criminal. On July 29, 2025, Bhinda was shot dead at Baba Haridas Nagar in a planned gang attack linked to old rivalry and extortion. Rana, a hotel management graduate who worked in Malaysia and Dubai, returned to India in July 2025 and joined his cousin Vikas Dahiya’s gang. Police said he was the main planner and also helped hide the murder weapon after the crime. His associates were arrested earlier, while Rana kept changing locations across several states to avoid arrest. Acting on a tip and technical tracking, Crime Branch teams caught him in Adarsh Nagar, Delhi, without resistance. Delhi Police arrested members of the Kachha Baniyan gang after an encounter.
