In a shocking incident reported from a village in Yadgir taluk, a 24-year-old woman was allegedly gang-raped by her relatives after disputes related to her personal relationship came to light. The incident, which reportedly took place yesterday, has triggered outrage in the locality and raised concerns over women’s safety.
According to police sources, the victim had reportedly shared details of her love life with a close woman relative. This information is said to have led to tension within the family. In the backdrop of this dispute, two accused—identified as Bassappa and Reddappa—allegedly targeted the woman.
Reports indicate that the incident occurred when the woman had stepped out of her house for a walk. Taking advantage of the situation, the accused allegedly intercepted her and forcibly took her to a nearby location. It is alleged that they restrained the victim and sexually assaulted her, also threatening her with dire consequences if she disclosed the incident to anyone. Despite the threats, the victim later approached the authorities and filed a complaint at the women’s police station. Acting swiftly on the complaint, the police registered a case and initiated an investigation.
Confirming the development, Superintendent of Police Prithvi Shankar stated that a case has been registered against the accused based on the victim’s complaint. He further informed that both the accused, Bassappa and Reddappa, have been arrested and are currently in police custody. Preliminary investigation suggests that the alleged crime was committed in connection with the victim’s personal relationship, which had reportedly been opposed by certain members of her family. Police are continuing further investigation to ascertain all aspects of the case.
The incident has once again highlighted the urgent need for stronger awareness and protection mechanisms for women, particularly in rural areas.
