The Pakistan Super League 2026 has been rocked by a major controversy after a suspected ball-tampering incident during the clash between Lahore Qalandars and Karachi Kings at Gaddafi Stadium.

The spotlight fell on Pakistan stars Fakhar Zaman, Shaheen Afridi, and Haris Rauf after a viral clip showed them handling the ball moments before the final over. The situation quickly escalated when on-field umpire Faisal Afridi intervened, suspecting that the ball’s condition had been altered.

Following a consultation with the square-leg umpire, officials awarded five penalty runs to Karachi and replaced the ball. The decision dramatically shifted the match equation from 14 runs needed to just nine in the final over, tilting the advantage decisively.

Karachi seized the opportunity, with Abbas Afridi smashing a boundary and a six to secure a four-wicket win with three balls to spare in a tense finish.

The controversy deepened post-match as the Pakistan Cricket Board initiated disciplinary action. Match referee Roshan Mahanama charged Fakhar Zaman with a Level 3 offence under the PSL Code of Conduct, which prohibits any artificial alteration of the ball. If found guilty, he could face a suspension of one to two matches.

Fakhar has denied the allegations and appeared for an initial hearing, with a final verdict expected soon. Meanwhile, Shaheen Afridi adopted a cautious stance, stating that the matter would be reviewed based on available footage.

All-rounder Sikandar Raza also questioned the decision, claiming there was no deliberate attempt to tamper with the ball and that he was merely trying to dry it.

Adding to the drama, Hasan Ali was fined 10 percent of his match fee for a separate Level 1 offence related to on-field conduct, which he accepted without contest.

As the clip continues to circulate widely, opinions remain divided, with debates intensifying over whether the umpires’ call was justified or overly harsh in a high-pressure moment.
