China Launches Justice Mission Drills Around Taiwan

Taiwan drills

Beijing

China on Monday launched large-scale joint military drills around Taiwan, asserting its claim over the island, which it calls an inseparable part of its territory.
The exercise, named Justice Mission 2025, is being carried out by the People’s Liberation Army’s Eastern Theatre Command and involves ground, air, naval, missile, and support units.
Military officials said the drills include air and sea patrols, simulated strikes, port blockades, and deterrence operations in nearby areas.
Aircraft and warships are moving around Taiwan from multiple directions, while forces practice rapid deployment and joint attacks.
China said the exercise is a warning against Taiwan independence movements and what it calls foreign interference.
The command also released a poster titled “Shield of Justice, Smashing Illusion”.
Fighter jets, bombers, drones, and long-range rocket units are testing precision strike abilities against mobile targets.
Beijing said the drills aim to protect sovereignty and national unity.
The move follows a recent United States decision to approve an arms package for Taiwan.
Washington said the proposed sales are worth about 11.1 billion dollars and include missiles, howitzers, and drones.
China condemned the deal, saying it violates the one-China principle.
Beijing has announced sanctions on United States defence companies and executives linked to arms supplies.
The foreign ministry said the measures take effect immediately.
Taiwan criticised the drills as an irrational provocation that harms regional peace.
Its defence ministry said forces are on high alert and conducting response exercises to protect the island and its people from any threat or pressure.
