With the Hockey India League (HIL) 2026 fast approaching, Kalinga Lancers have officially commenced their pre-season training camp, with Indian players reporting at the iconic Kalinga Stadium on Tuesday. The early start reflects the franchise’s intent to build a strong foundation and ensure thorough preparation ahead of one of India’s most competitive domestic hockey tournaments.

The opening day of the camp focused on planning and orientation, as players participated in a detailed strategy meeting led by the team’s Technical & Strategy Coach, Pascal Kina. The session marked the beginning of the Lancers’ structured build-up to the new season, with emphasis on understanding playing philosophies, roles, and collective objectives.

A strong core of Indian players has reported for the camp, led by captain Sanjay. The group includes experienced goalkeeper Krishan B Pathak, defenders Partap Lakra, Rohit Kullu, and Sunil P B. The midfield unit features Rabichandra Moirangthem, Rosan Kujur, Dilpreet Singh, and Amit Kumar Toppo, while the forward line includes Angab Bir Singh, Deepak Pradhan, Gursahibjit Singh, and Boby Singh Dhami.

Pascal Kina brings over 15 years of experience in international hockey, having worked extensively across Europe and with teams in New Zealand, Australia, Canada, China, and Korea. The upcoming Hockey India League will mark his first coaching assignment in India. Expressing his enthusiasm, Kina said he was delighted to finally experience Indian hockey firsthand and proud to represent Vedanta Kalinga Lancers.

Highlighting the importance of the initial phase, Kina emphasized fitness assessments, testing, and building relationships within the squad. With limited time before the league begins, he stressed the need for early cohesion and clarity in roles. He also expressed confidence in the squad’s quality and preparation plan, revealing that a practice match is already scheduled for the 28th. With overseas players expected to join directly from national team camps, Kina believes the team will have sufficient match readiness and preparation time.
