Authorities move to dissolve defunct Souharda cooperatives

Authorities have initiated steps to dissolve inactive Souharda cooperative societies in Chitradurga district under the Karnataka Souharda Act.

Chitradurga
The Assistant Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Chitradurga Sub-Division, has initiated action to wind up several Souharda cooperative societies in Chitradurga district that have remained defunct for an extended period. According to an official release, these societies were registered under the Karnataka Souharda Cooperative Act, 1997, but failed to function in accordance with their bylaws, leading to their current inactive status.

The authorities stated that as these cooperatives have not carried out any operational activities, steps are being taken to formally dissolve them as per legal provisions. Members or stakeholders of the concerned societies have been given an opportunity to raise objections, if any. They have been instructed to submit their objections within 15 days from the date of this notification to the office of the Assistant Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Chitradurga.

As of March 31, 2025, a total of five Souharda cooperative societies of different categories have been identified as defunct. These include the Chitradurga Contractor Pattina Souharda Cooperative located in the Public Works Department office premises in Chitradurga city; the Valmiki Pattina Souharda Cooperative situated on Huliyaru Road in Hiriyur taluk; and the Sevaniratha Noukarara Vividhoddesha Souharda Cooperative functioning from Taluk Panchayat Shop No. 2 at T.B. Circle in Hosadurga town.

The list also includes the Ma Pattina Souharda Cooperative located at Srihari Shopping Complex on Chitradurga Road in Challakere taluk, and the Sangolli Rayanna Pattina Souharda Cooperative situated on H.R. Road in Molakalmuru taluk, above the DCC Bank building at Krishnamurthy Building.

Officials clarified that the move is intended to streamline the cooperative sector, ensure compliance with regulations, and prevent the accumulation of non-functional entities. Further action will be taken after reviewing objections, if received, within the stipulated period.
