Chhattisgarh Winter Session Begins

Chhattisgarh Assembly winter session begins in new building

Raipur
The Winter Session 2025 of the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly commenced on Sunday in Nava Raipur, marking a historic shift as proceedings moved to the newly constructed Assembly building for the first time. The four-day session, scheduled to continue until December 17, has drawn attention not only for its new venue but also for its complete transition to a paperless format, reflecting the state legislature’s push towards digital governance.

However, the opening day was overshadowed by the main opposition Congress boycotting the session’s first sitting. With Congress legislators absent, the inaugural proceedings saw participation only from members of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The first day was devoted to a special discussion on Chhattisgarh Vision 2047, aligning with the broader national narrative of Developed India 2047. Due to the special nature of the discussion and the boycott, no Question Hour was scheduled on Sunday.

The debate on Vision 2047 focused on long-term development goals, infrastructure expansion, economic growth, social welfare, and governance reforms aimed at positioning Chhattisgarh as a key contributor to India’s centenary development vision. BJP legislators initiated the discussion, outlining priorities and proposed strategies for the state’s future, while the absence of Congress voices was visibly felt in the House.

Despite the boycott, the session is expected to witness intense legislative activity over the coming days. Members of the Legislative Assembly have submitted a total of 628 questions for the session, including 333 starred and 295 unstarred questions. Significantly, about 96 per cent of these questions were submitted online, highlighting the Assembly’s successful adoption of digital processes in its new premises.

In addition, 48 calling attention motions and nine private member resolutions have been listed, indicating that ministers will face detailed questioning and scrutiny.
