Avoiding traffic congestion
BENGALURU
Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao has directed Bengaluru Development Authority (BDA) officials to complete construction of the new loop at the Hebbal flyover within 15 days and open it to traffic, stressing the need to ease heavy congestion at one of the city’s busiest junctions.
Rao issued the instructions during an inspection of several locations under the Bengaluru North City Corporation limits. He noted that the flyover bringing vehicles into the city from the KR Puram side has already been completed and opened. With this in place, the connecting loop between the new and existing flyovers must now be finished without delay, he said.
The first girder for the new Hebbal loop has been installed, and concrete work is underway. Rao instructed officials to install the remaining two girders and finish the pending work at the earliest.
BDA officials informed him that discussions are in progress with various departments regarding a proposed 1.4 km flyover from Esteem Mall on Ballari Road to Manyata Tech Park. Steps will be taken to implement the project soon, they added.
During the inspection, Rao pointed out that the footpath alongside Hebbal Lake had been damaged in several stretches. He directed officials to repair the walkway, clear roadside garbage, and remove an obstructing pole to maintain cleanliness and improve pedestrian safety.
A section of the Hebbal flyover has already undergone milling and asphalting. Rao instructed the engineering teams to mill the remaining sections and complete the asphalting work immediately to ensure smooth movement of vehicles.
In Hebbal, RMV 2nd Stage and Basaveshwara Layout, Rao inspected road conditions and asked officials to expedite asphalting on arterial and sub-arterial stretches. He also reviewed an under-construction building adjacent to MCC land in RMV 2nd Phase and instructed officials to verify potential encroachment. If any violation is detected, strict action must be taken as per regulations, he said.
North City Corporation Commissioner Pommala Sunil Kumar, Joint Commissioner Mohammed Nayeem Momin, BDA engineers, and officials from the Metro, Water Board, and Traffic Police were present during the inspection.
