Australia captain Alyssa Healy may miss the upcoming ODI series against India due to a knee injury sustained during the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL). The Sydney Sixers, Healy’s WBBL team, confirmed her withdrawal from the remainder of the tournament, according to ICC the news was announced by her WBBL side.
The injury has raised concerns about Healy’s availability for the home ODI series against India, starting Dec 5. Healy’s fitness will be closely monitored as the team prepares for a packed schedule, including an away ODI series in New Zealand and the multi-format Ashes against England.
This is not Healy’s first injury setback this year. Earlier, she missed the Women’s T20 World Cup semi-final against South Africa, where Tahlia McGrath stepped in as captain. McGrath could take on the leadership role again if Healy is unable to recover in time for the India series.
Australia’s ODI series against India begins at Queensland’s Allan Border Field, hosting the first two matches on Dec 5 and 8. The final match will take place at Perth’s WACA Ground on Dec 11.
Healy, 34, is a cornerstone of the Australian team. Since her ODI debut in 2010, she has played 110 matches, scoring 3,011 runs at an average of 34.60 and a strike rate of 97.98. Her Test career includes 455 runs in nine matches, while she has amassed 3,054 runs in 162 T20Is at a strike rate of 129.79.
