Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman emphasized that the government, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, ensures that every rupee collected through taxes is effectively used, benefiting the common people and preventing any wastage. Speaking at an event for students in Bengaluru on Saturday, Sitharaman outlined the government’s philosophy of creating assets with the money it earns, aiming for good governance and maximizing the value of every tax rupee.

Highlighting the government’s focus on financial inclusion, Sitharaman pointed to the success of the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY), launched in 2014, which has provided over 523 million bank accounts, bringing marginalized sections of society into the formal banking system.

She also discussed the growth of India’s digital infrastructure, noting how the government, along with various stakeholders, contributed to its development. She shared an inspiring story from Nagaland, where an NGO producing handmade crafts had received an order from the US, showcasing how digital platforms have helped small businesses reach global markets.

“The digital revolution knows no borders. What started with a small NGO in Nagaland now extends to small businesses nationwide,” Sitharaman said. She added that digital and financial inclusion are now available to people directly through their phones, making these services accessible in simple, local languages.
