Quetta

A suicide blast at Quetta Railway Station in Pakistan’s Balochistan province has left at least 27 people dead and more than 60 others injured. The explosion occurred on Saturday morning when passengers were gathered on the platform for the departure of the Jaffar Express train, which was headed for Peshawar.

According to Quetta Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mohammad Baloch, around 100 people were present when the blast occurred. Authorities suspect the explosion was the result of a suicide bombing. The injured, including women and children, were taken to Civil Hospital Quetta, where 46 individuals are reported to be in critical condition.

Balochistan’s Chief Minister Sarfaraz Bugti condemned the attack, calling it a “horrific act targeting innocent civilians” and ordered an immediate investigation. He vowed to pursue the perpetrators relentlessly. The attack highlights the ongoing violence in the province, which has been plagued by militant attacks, particularly targeting civilians, security forces, and ethnic minorities.

The tragic incident follows a recent roadside bombing in Mastung district that killed nine people, including five children, and injured 17 others. Balochistan, along with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), has been the epicenter of violence, with militant groups carrying out deadly attacks, often claiming the lives of security personnel and civilians. Pakistan has accused these militant groups of receiving support from across the border in Afghanistan, urging the Afghan Taliban to take action against them.
