FC Barcelona defender Eric Garcia continues to make a strong case for a contract renewal, impressing manager Hansi Flick with consistent and composed performances this season. Despite speculation linking him with a move to Paris Saint-Germain and several Premier League clubs, the 24-year-old Spaniard remains an integral part of Barça’s starting lineup.
According to reports, Garcia’s current contract expires at the end of the season, which means he will be free to negotiate with other clubs from January 2026. PSG boss Luis Enrique is reportedly keen to reunite with the player, while English clubs are closely monitoring his situation.
Garcia’s versatility — performing effectively at both right-back and centre-back — has been crucial during Barcelona’s inconsistent campaign. His ability to adapt to different roles has made him “untouchable” in Flick’s system.
During the clash against Celta Vigo, Garcia once again demonstrated his reliability. Playing with a protective mask after a nasal fracture, he was deployed at right-back due to Jules Kounde’s fitness issues and delivered an excellent performance. He completed 63 of 66 passes in the opposition half, won four of seven duels, and recovered three balls, underlining his calm presence under pressure.
While negotiations over a contract extension have moved slowly, Garcia’s recent displays are putting increasing pressure on Barcelona’s sporting director Deco to act swiftly. Losing a player of Garcia’s calibre on a free transfer would be a significant blow, especially given his age and development under Flick.
With his form peaking and suitors circling, Barcelona face a critical decision: either tie Garcia down to a long-term deal soon or risk losing one of their most reliable defenders to a European rival.
