Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh held key discussions with the 16th Finance Commission on Friday, led by Chairman Arvind Panagariya, focusing on maximizing the use of central funds for Manipur’s development. The discussions emphasized efficient utilization of Centrally Sponsored Schemes and grants-in-aid to drive economic growth across various sectors.

The Commission’s visit aims to promote strategic fund allocation and resource management in the state. The Finance Commission encourages states to improve their internal revenue generation as part of a broader move towards fiscal self-reliance. Panagariya highlighted the importance of internal revenue as a function of the Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP), stating that increased revenue reflects a stronger state economy and drives higher income levels.

During a conference in Nagaland, Panagariya emphasized that the Commission supports states’ efforts to boost internal revenue and assured that regular grants from the center would continue. He pointed out that growth in GSDP is key to fiscal stability, especially for resource-challenged states like Nagaland, which rely heavily on central funding.

These ongoing consultations mark a significant step for Manipur as it seeks to achieve sustainable growth through strategic fund use and resource management.
