Haveri
Sugarcane farmers in Haveri staged a protest at the Mylara Mahadevappa Circle, demanding that the government- announced price for sugarcane be paid. Farmers expressed anger towards both the government and factory owners, highlighting the disparity between the announced rate of ₹3,200 per ton and the lower prices offered by three factories, ranging from ₹2,700 to ₹2,800 per ton.
The protest received support from the District Ex-Servicemen and Advocates Association, which joined the farmers in voicing their concerns. Farmers warned that if the government and factory owners fail to honor the announced rates, they would escalate their agitation by blocking the national highway tomorrow.
The demonstrators emphasized that adherence to the government-declared price is essential for protecting farmers’ livelihoods and ensuring fair compensation for their produce. The protest reflects growing frustration among the sugarcane community over delayed payments and undercutting by factories, underscoring the urgent need for authorities to intervene and resolve the pricing issue promptly. Farmers urged immediate action to prevent disruption and maintain trust between growers and sugar industries.
