City Municipal Council members have expressed strong dissatisfaction with unauthorized buildings constructed in violation of regulations. The council has decided to demolish these structures following a meeting chaired by City Council President Prabhakar Poojary on Friday.
The council discussed the issue of illegal constructions within the city. Members criticized officials for allowing such buildings to be erected during periods when elected representatives were absent, citing a lack of proper checks and actions. They called for disciplinary measures against the responsible officials.
Council member TG Hegde highlighted a specific case involving a private builder who constructed a building behind Kidiuru Hotel. Hegde stated that permission was obtained by misleadingly covering a road. This road, shown in old revenue records, was blocked by the unauthorized construction, causing inconvenience to nearby homes. The building had been assigned a door number, violating road connection regulations. Despite complaints and inspections, no action had been taken. Hegde also noted that a building in front of a mosque, previously demolished, was illegally reconstructed, encroaching on setback and parking areas. The business at this location was resumed without authorization, allegedly with the aid of officials.
Council member Srikrishna Rao Kodanch accused officials of supporting the illegal construction of a community hall in Chitpadi Ward on land converted for residential use, violating stormwater drain regulations.
In response, Commissioner Rayappa stated that notices had been issued for buildings in Shiribidu and Chitpadi wards. He assured that the door number for the building behind Kidiuru Hotel would be revoked and appropriate actions would be taken to address the issues with the buildings in front of the mosque and in Chitpadi.
