The southern Chinese province of Hainan has evacuated 419,367 residents by Friday noon in preparation for the approaching Super Typhoon Yagi, according to local authorities.

Yagi, the 11th typhoon of the year, has intensified to a super typhoon at level 17, bringing winds up to 245 km per hour. The typhoon is expected to make landfall in Wenchang on Friday afternoon, as reported by sources, citing the provincial meteorological bureau.

The bureau warned that Yagi’s strong winds and heavy rainfall could cause significant damage where it lands. The storm is forecast to move north, affecting Haikou, Chengmai County, and other areas before reaching the Beibu Gulf.

Additionally, seawater levels along the northern coast of Hainan Island are expected to rise by 150 to 230 cm from Friday to Saturday noon. Haikou is likely to experience severe flooding due to storm surges and intense rain.

In response, the province has suspended operations at several tourist sites and implemented traffic control measures to ensure public safety.
