Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu has rejected claims that his government is using drones to spy on Leader of the Opposition Jairam Thakur. Sukhu labeled the accusations as baseless and assured that a thorough investigation will be conducted. He also plans to send a letter to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to verify if any surveillance on Thakur is being carried out by these agencies.
Sukhu criticized Thakur for allegedly leaving the legislative assembly without paying attention to discussions and for using such tactics to gain media attention. He claimed that not all of Thakur’s party members are participating in the walkout protests.
Addressing the drone spying allegations, Sukhu emphasized that the Himachal government is not involved in any such activities and that the issue will be investigated thoroughly. He also accused the previous opposition government of undermining the state’s economic interests by reducing royalty rates on power projects, which he believes led to significant economic losses. Sukhu warned that if the involved companies do not adhere to government conditions, they may face state control.
In response, Thakur argued that the opposition is being denied adequate time to speak in the House and criticized the government for deferring salaries of the Chief Minister and ministers, calling it a political move. He also accused the government of using drones for surveillance, escalating the ongoing dispute between the ruling party and the opposition.
