The Bengal SC, ST & OBC Development & Finance Corporation (Amendment Bill), 2024, will be introduced in the Assembly on Wednesday. This bill allows the West Bengal government to appoint a representative from the state’s Backward Classes Welfare Department to the corporation. According to government sources, this representative could be either the departmental Secretary or a Joint Secretary. The inclusion of a senior official is intended to improve oversight and transparency in the corporation’s activities, particularly in the efficient use of funds for Backward Class welfare. Discussions on the bill are scheduled for Thursday.
