BJP supported candidates bagged the majority of seats in the elections for the board of directors of Dharwad Milk Union.
Out of eight posts for which the polls were held, six were won by BJP-supported candidates. The board has nine directors, but elections were held for eight as Hanumanthgouda Hiregoudar from Gadag-Nargund segment was elected unopposed.
The BJP-supported candidates made non-payment of incentives by the Congress government in the state to milk producers, their election plank and it yielded results. This was the maiden election held for the District Milk Union after Haveri was bifurcated from the Milk Union. The Dharwad Milk Union comprises of milk producers from Dharwad, Gadag and Uttara Kannada districts.
In the last election, the BJP had bagged maximum posts and it had helped Shankar Mugad become the President of Dharwad Milk Union. In this electon, Mugad scripted new history by winning the polls for the fifth consecutive term and is eyeing again the Dharwad Milk Union chief’s post again. He represented Dharwad, Alanavar, Navalgund and Annigeri segments.
