In a significant development, the Central government has extended the deadline of the Smart Cities Mission till March 2025, responding positively to the appeal made by Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy. The CM had met Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal Khattar during his recent visit to the national capital.

During the meeting, Reddy emphasized the need to extend the Smart Cities Mission until the completion of ongoing works. The Union government has now issued an official letter to states extending the deadline to March 31, 2025. The Centre had initially set the completion target for June-end.

The Smart Cities Mission has led to considerable development in Warangal and Karimnagar, with several works already completed and many more in progress. The Centre’s letter clarified that no new works would be sanctioned, and funds for ongoing projects would be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis until September.
