In an address to a joint session of both Houses on Thursday, President Droupadi Murmu praised India’s G20 chairmanship, which was held in New Delhi last year, noting that India had brought the globe together on a number of issues.
President Murmu went on to say that the African Union became the organization’s 27th member while India was the president, and he said that this action had increased confidence throughout the Global South and on the African continent.
The President stated, We have all experienced how the world’s view of India has changed at the G7 Summit held in Italy, during Thursday’s joint sitting of the Parliament. Throughout its G20 chairmanship, India has brought the world together on a number of topics. During India’s chairmanship, the African Union became the G20’s 27th member. This has improved confidence throughout the Global South, including the African continent.
With fifty-five member states spread over the African continent, the African Union is a continental union. Prime Minister Modi suggested in June 2023 that the African Union be added to the G20.
The UK PM Rishi Sunak, the Italian PM Giorgia Meloni, and US President Joe Biden were among the international leaders who attended the September 2023 G20 Summit, which was hosted in this country’s capital.
