Rs 1,000 Fine For Allowing Children To Pop Heads Out Of Moving Cars

Must read

Bengaluru has highlighted the consequences of allowing children to stick their heads out of sunroofs while in motion. A resident of KR Puram was fined Rs 1,000 for what was deemed as ‘rash and negligent’ driving, after his two children were spotted with their heads out of the sunroof of his Kia Seltos on Marathahalli main road. The incident was captured on video by another motorist and reported to the city police.

Acting swiftly, the jurisdictional HAL traffic police station identified the vehicle owner and imposed the fine. MN Anuchet, the joint commissioner of police (traffic), highlighted that allowing anyone to protrude from a moving car’s sunroof is considered unsafe and illegal. He underscored the potential dangers associated with such practices, despite no major accidents reported yet.

This punitive measure aims to deter such unsafe driving practices, Anuchet stated. He further elaborated that this negligence is frequently observed in the city during weekends and on highways. The issue extends beyond children, with youths and even adults often seen engaging in similar behavior, either for recording videos or taking selfies.

Police officers have reiterated that such actions are not only against the law but also pose significant risks to the safety of vehicle occupants and other road users. The fine for such offenses is intended to discourage such irresponsible behavior on the roads of Bengaluru.
