Drug addiction, identified as a major issue by Home Minister Dr. G Parameshwara, was discussed at a program held at Kantheerava Stadium in the city. The event, marking International Day against Drug Addiction and Trafficking, was jointly organized by the state police department and various educational institutions.
The United Nations initiated Anti-Drug Day on June 26 in 1987 to address the global concern of drug addiction. India faces significant challenges, with an estimated 5 crore people addicted to drugs. Concern was expressed about the impact on youth, who are increasingly involved in criminal activities, often linked to drug addiction.
Dr. G Parameshwara highlighted the societal dangers of drug addiction and urged parents to monitor their children’s activities closely. He instructed officials to raise awareness about the harmful effects of drugs. Present at the event were State Director General of Police Alok Mohan, City Police Commissioner B Dayanand, CID DGP Dr. MA Saleem, ADGP Pranab Mohanty, Chief Minister’s Political Secretary Dr. K. Govindaraj, MLA Rizwan Arshad, and Adarsh Developers Managing Director Jayashankar.
The focus on combating drug addiction underscores its pervasive threat to society, particularly among young people.
