Several loopholes have been found in the distribution of crop compensation under SDRF and NDRF for 2023-24 in the Dharwad Lok Sabha constituency. Union Minister Pralhad Joshi has requested the state government to address these issues. Letters have been written to CM Siddaramaiah, Agriculture Minister Chaluvarayaswamy, and State Chief Secretary Selvakumar.

In his letter, Minister Joshi highlighted the injustice faced by farmers in the district regarding crop compensation. It was noted that in Koliwada of Hubli taluk, 2,600 Fruit IDs had registered farmers’ accounts, but only 680 accounts received the drought relief amount. Furthermore, farmers with holdings of 2 hectares and above received compensation for only one hectare. Many farmers, despite meeting all criteria, either did not receive the compensation or received very low amounts.

Specific cases were mentioned, such as a farmer named Kalpappa Budihala, who recorded only 2 acres of his 8.20 acres and received Rs 4,800 and Rs 2,000 as compensation. Similarly, Ramappa Budihala, with 8.16 acres, received Rs 9,560 and Rs 2,000. Another farmer, Basappa Bhadrannavara, recorded only 1.19 acres out of his 3.19 acres and received Rs 3,015.

Minister Joshi has demanded that all affected farmers receive proper compensation and that action be taken against those responsible for the errors.
