The Delhi High Court on Saturday directed Sunita Kejriwal, wife of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, to remove a video of court proceedings she posted on social media. The video featured her husband addressing the court following his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the alleged liquor policy scam.

A bench of Justices Neena Bansal and Amit Sharma was hearing a PIL demanding action against her and others for allegedly recording trial court proceedings during the Chief Minister’s address after his ED arrest. The court’s order extends to others who shared the video, requiring its removal from social media. The case is set for its next hearing on July 9.

Filed by Delhi lawyer Vaibhav Singh, the PIL requests a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate and register an FIR against those involved in recording and disseminating the court proceedings, arguing these actions risk the trial court judge’s safety. The petition names individuals including Akshay Malhotra, social media user Nagrik-India Jeetega, Promila Gupta, Vineeta Jain, and Dr. Arunesh Kumar Yadav, accusing them of willfully violating the Video Conferencing Rules.

The plea claims Aam Aadmi Party members and other opposition members conspired to record and share the court proceedings to manipulate the process. It seeks punishment under the Contempt of Courts Act, 1971, and strict penalties for breaching the Delhi High Court’s VC Rules 2021. Additionally, it asks social media platforms to prevent unauthorized recordings and impose penalties for non-compliance.
