The call for prohibiting public vehicular traffic within the Bangalore University campus has gained momentum once again due to mounting traffic congestion and an increase in student accidents. A letter has been drafted by Legislative Council Speaker Basavaraj Horatti, urging the government to enforce the ban swiftly.
Concerns over traffic congestion and student safety have prompted discussions about banning public vehicles on VV Main Road in the near future. Previous deliberations regarding this matter have included considerations for alternative routes for vehicles, albeit with no concrete actions taken.
Basavaraj Horatti’s letter to the government highlights the urgency of implementing the ban on public vehicle movement within the campus premises. This demand has persisted for several years, stemming from past incidents such as a fatal accident involving a BMTC bus in October 2022.
The tragic event sparked a student-led protest, urging authorities to address the issue promptly.
