District in-charge minister Dinesh Gundurao said that the district administration will take action to install lightning prevention system in Subrahmanya and surrounding areas, where death due to thunder and lightning is most common in Dakshina Kannada district.
The Minister held a meeting with the district level officials regarding preparations for possible natural calamities during the rainy season at the Deputy Commissioner’s office on Monday and discussed the installation of these barriers at four or five places in Sullya, Belthangadi and Subrahmanya at the initial stage. Responding to the media after the meeting, Minister Dinesh Gundurao said that in the last 10 years, there have been cases of death and loss of property due to lightning in this Subrahmany and surrounding areas. He said that because it is a high area, it is estimated that there is a high risk of lightning in this area, so in practice, steps have been taken to install lightning arresters in these areas.
In the meeting, the officials were instructed to prepare all the departments of the district immediately to deal with the calamities that may occur during the rainy season. Check the functioning of machinery used in case of natural calamity. In some parts of Dakshina Kannada district, there have been allegations of illegal mining and transportation of red soil, the minister instructed the officials of mines and geology department to conduct a joint operation with the police department to take strict action to prevent it.
