Following reports on social media suggesting that demoralized Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) leaders and workers were leaving Sikkim due to fears of post-poll violence by the ruling party’s cadre, the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) assured them of safety and appealed for their return. The SKM secured 31 out of 32 assembly seats, while the SDF managed only one, with its leader and former Chief Minister Pawan Kumar Chamling also facing defeat.

Addressing the concerns, SKM spokesperson Jacob Khaling stated, we understand the apprehensions and pain caused by such incidents, having been victims ourselves. We firmly stand against violence and have instructed all party members, under the guidance of Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, to maintain peace. Khaling urged those who had left to come back, emphasizing the importance of the opposition’s role in serving the public and contributing to the state’s development.

Echoing these sentiments, Chief Minister Tamang emphasized the need for peace and security in Sikkim during the SKM’s second term. However, SDF leaders were unavailable for comment on the matter.
