Deputy Commissioner and District Returning Officer (DRO), Divya Prabhu informed the candidates and political parties that contested the Lok Sabha polls 2024 to instruct their election and counting agents to strictly follow the guidelines issued by the Election Commission of India (ECI) during the counting of votes. The polling for Dharwad Lok Sabha constituency was held on May 7 and the votes will be counted at the University of Agricultural Sciences in Dharwad on June 4.
The DRO, who convened a meeting of candidates and representatives of political parties, said prohibitory orders under Section 144 of CrPC and Section 35 of KP Act 1963 will be in force in 200 meters radius of the counting venue and people will not be allowed to gather and move in groups. The order will be in force from 6am on June 2 to 6am on June 5. Arrangements have been made for parking of vehicles and serving of tea/tiffin/food. Carrying mobile phones and electronic devices, weapons, gutkha, cigaratte, pan into the counting centre has been banned.
In view of maintaining peace during the counting of votes, the district administration has ordered a ban on storing, selling and consuming liquor in Dharwad district from 11.59pm on June 3 till 11.59pm on June 4.
