Following Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar’s recent statement suggesting India treat Pakistan with respect, BJP leader Amit Malviya took a dig at the opposition party. He shared World Bank data on social media indicating Pakistan’s superior electricity provision compared to India until 2018, attributing this to Congress mismanagement.
Malviya highlighted the disparity, noting that in 2000, Pakistan’s electricity access exceeded India’s. However, he pointed out India’s significant improvement post-2017, surpassing Pakistan in 2018. He underscored this as evidence of India’s progress and criticized Congress for India’s previous lag in electricity provision.
The timing of Aiyar’s comments added to Congress’s woes, following Sam Pitroda’s controversial remarks during the Lok Sabha elections. Aiyar’s advice for respectful treatment of Pakistan and caution against aggressive policies due to its nuclear capabilities stirred further debate.
Malviya’s social media post not only emphasized India’s advancement but also underscored the impact of governance on crucial sectors like electricity access.
