BWSSB Constructs 986 Rainwater Wells Ahead of Monsoon

Taking proactive steps to address water scarcity, the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has built 986 rainwater wells across the city.

This initiative, aligned with Mahatma Gandhi’s principle of leading by example, aims to combat groundwater depletion. Despite misconceptions attributing water scarcity solely to Cauvery water shortages, dried-up tube wells have exacerbated the issue.

Ram Prasath Manohar, Chairman of BWSSB, directed the construction of rainwater tanks within dry tube wells under the organization’s purview. Completed within a month by active BWSSB officials, these cisterns facilitate underground rainwater flow, replenishing groundwater and reducing surface runoff.

Additionally, the initiative includes plans for 74 Community Rain Harvesting projects to enhance groundwater levels and rejuvenate lakes. This proactive approach precedes public mandates, showcasing the board’s commitment to fostering a sustainable future for Bengaluru by encouraging rainwater harvesting initiatives.
