Health Department Clarifies Misinformation On Covishield Vaccine And Food Consumption

Must read

The Health Department in Bengaluru has issued a clarification regarding misinformation circulating on social media, asserting that individuals vaccinated with Covishield should refrain from consuming ice cream and soft drinks.

A notice from a private college, which went viral on Friday, warned against consuming refrigerated water, ice cream, and soft drinks after receiving the Covishield vaccine, citing risks of blood clots in the heart leading to death. However, the Health Department clarified on Saturday that such claims are unfounded, and no circular has been issued by the department to that effect.

The Health Department echoed the importance of avoiding panic and urged the public to remain vigilant against misinformation. Notices have been sent to colleges that disseminated this misinformation, seeking clarification on the basis of their claims.

According to the Health Department, there is no scientific basis to suggest a link between Covishield vaccination and sudden blood clots leading to heart attacks. Therefore, the directive issued by the private college to abstain from consuming refrigerated water, ice cream, and soft drinks is deemed unnecessary and invalid.

The Health Department advises all students and parents to disregard such unfounded claims and continue following established health guidelines related to Covid-19 prevention and vaccination.
