New Delhi

SJVN Ltd has launched India’s first multipurpose Green Hydrogen Pilot Project at its Nathpa Jhakri Hydro Power Station (NJHPS) in Jhakri, Himachal Pradesh. This project will produce 14 kg of green hydrogen daily in eight hours, using renewable energy from SJVN’s 1.31 MW solar power plant in Shimla. The hydrogen will be stored in six tanks at 30 bars pressure, providing a total capacity of 12 m3.

The green hydrogen will serve multiple purposes, including fueling High Velocity Oxygen Fuel (HVOF) coating facilities and generating electricity through a 25 kW fuel cell. SJVN Chairperson Geeta Kapur, who inaugurated the project, said it aligns with India’s Green Hydrogen Mission to boost clean energy infrastructure.

During the visit, Kapur also launched a centralized control system for remote operation of both NJHPS and the Rampur Hydro Power Station, improving efficiency in managing these hydroelectric plants. The project represents a significant step toward sustainable energy practices in India’s power sector.
