Robotics Summer Camps Create Quite A Buzz

Hubli

A first-ever robotics camp for children’s summer activities in Hubli-Dharwad has generated significant interest at the Multi-Skill Development Centre. Operated by the Skill Development Entrepreneurship and Livelihood Department, these robotics camps have been expanded to many GTTC centres across North Karnataka. While traditional summer camps typically focus on art and culture, the emphasis now appears to be shifting towards promoting more technology-based activities among children.

At these robotics camps, children are introduced to various technical aspects such as mechanical, electronic, software, and coding. Maruthi Banjantri, Principal of GTTC, noted a positive response from children who have been given the opportunity to engage in robot building. The camps are now being extended to other GTTC centres in Gokak, Chikodi, and beyond, benefiting approximately 4-5 batches until May.

Kumar Karamadi, a trainer for Internet of Things, shared details of the camp, highlighting demonstrations of Robotics, Smart Irrigation System, and Drone Technologies. Components of robots, including microcontrollers and electronic programming, are explained to the children, providing them with basic knowledge that can be useful for future studies in robotics.

Shravani, a student attending one of these camps, expressed her enjoyment and learning from the experience. She found it to be a valuable way to spend the summer holidays, learning about the fundamentals of robotics and identifying different types of robots such as Autonomous Robots, Tele-Operated Robots, and Pre-programmed Robots.
