The Indian Coast Guard acted swiftly to rescue nine fishermen who faced severe burn injuries following a fire and explosion on their fishing boat at sea, officials reported on Saturday.
The incident occurred on April 5 when their boat caught fire and sank in the sea, prompting all nine fishermen to jump into the water to escape. Unfortunately, some suffered severe burns during the process.
The Indian fishing boat Durga Bhavani sank due to the explosion, but nearby boats relayed the information to a Coast Guard ship, which rushed to the scene to rescue the survivors.
Responding promptly, the Indian Coast Guard Ship Veera, patrolling off the Andhra coast, saved the fishermen on the same day. The ship received a distress call about the fire and explosion from a nearby fishing boat and reached the location within hours.
The fishing boat, registered in Andhra Pradesh and carrying nine crew members, had departed from Kakinada harbor on March 26.
Upon reaching the location, the Coast Guard ship provided first aid to the survivors, and they were later transferred to King George Hospital in Visakhapatnam for further treatment.
The entire rescue operation, completed within six hours, was coordinated by the Coast Guard District Headquarters No. 6, highlighting the agency’s commitment to maritime safety and assistance.
