Disciplinary action has been ordered against four senior police officials by Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif following an inquiry into the suicide attack that claimed the lives of five Chinese engineers and their Pakistani driver, as reported by Information Minister Attaullah Tarar on Saturday.
The attack occurred last Tuesday in the Besham area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, targeting the convoy of Chinese engineers en route to the Dasu Hydroelectric power station construction site in Kohistan district.
The inquiry committee’s report prompted Prime Minister Sharif to direct action against officials in the region, including the regional police officer (RPO) Hazara Division, district police officers of Upper Kohistan and Lower Kohistan, director of security at Dasu Hydropower Project, and the commandant of the special security unit in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Emphasizing Pakistan’s commitment to ensuring the safety of Chinese nationals and projects, Tarar stated that Prime Minister Shehbaz personally oversees their security. Additionally, Sharif instructed all Pakistani security agencies to enhance security measures for Chinese nationals working on various projects in Pakistan. China has also expressed concern over the attack and demanded the safety of its citizens involved in projects under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.
