Omar Abdullah, the vice president of the National Conference (NC), accused BJP leader Gen (retd) V K Singh of hindering the revocation of AFSPA during the UPA-2 government, when Singh was the Army chief.

I’ve been advocating for AFSPA’s revocation since 2011 when I was the chief minister. But who opposed it? It was Gen V K Singh, who was a ministerial colleague and the Army chief at the time, Abdullah told party workers in Baramulla district.

Abdullah urged the Union home minister to prioritize easing public movement on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway. He stated, Focus on improving highway movement first. Stop the army from causing inconvenience during convoys. Then we can discuss AFSPA.

He also called for the release of J-K prisoners held in jails outside the state and criticized the publication of allegiance notices in newspapers by relatives of separatists. Abdullah expressed concerns that AFSPA might be forgotten after the elections, similar to the Sixth Schedule issue in Ladakh.
