Rishabh Pant cleared for IPL 2024 comeback and is poised to return to competitive cricket after receiving medical clearance for the forthcoming Indian Premier League (IPL), as confirmed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Monday.
The BCCI disclosed that Pant, the wicket-keeper batter, has completed a rigorous 14-month rehabilitation following a life-threatening accident near Roorkee, Uttarakhand, on December 30th, 2022. The upcoming TATA IPL 2024 will mark Pant’s comeback to action since the conclusion of the two-match Test series in Bangladesh in December 2022.
Pant’s recovery journey has been arduous, with multiple surgeries and extensive rehabilitation to regain cricketing fitness. However, his determination has led him back to the field, much to the delight of fans and supporters.
Meanwhile, the BCCI also provided updates on fast bowlers Mohd Shami and Prasidh Krishna. Shami, who underwent successful surgery on his heel last month, will be sidelined for IPL 2024. Similarly, Prasidh Krishna, recovering from surgery on his left proximal quadriceps tendon, will miss the upcoming season.
The absence of Shami and Krishna underscores the challenges faced by the Indian cricket team, yet Pant’s return signals a hopeful resurgence as IPL 2024 approaches.
