The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) pulled off a heroic rescue on October 25, saving 31 fishermen from the Goa-based fishing boat IFB Sant Anton-I, which had been adrift in the Arabian Sea for 11 days after its steering system failed.

According to a press release here on Sunday from the ICG, The vessel, reported missing 100 nautical miles off New Mangalore, sparked a swift response from the ICG’s Karnataka headquarters, bringing hope to the local fishing community. Facing rough seas, the ICG mobilized ICGS Kasturba Gandhi, a patrol vessel, and a Dornier aircraft from Kochi to search for the stranded boat.

Using advanced weather data and drift calculations from the Integrated Operations Centre, the Coast Guard tracked the vessel’s likely position. On Saturday, the Dornier aircraft spotted IFB Sant Anton-I, guiding ICGS Kasturba Gandhi to the site.

The crew provided critical support, repairing the steering system, assessing damage, and ensuring the boat’s safety.
