BBMP Clears Illegal Encroachment Of Property Worth 85 Crores In Yelahanka

Must read

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has cleared the illegal encroachment of a property worth Rs 85 crore on 2.75 acres of land in Yelahanka. The BBMP in cooperation with the Revenue Department and the Police conducted an encroachment eviction operation on Tuesday. According to the BBMP statement, the encroachers were running commercial establishments by putting temporary sheds in encroached land.

140 police personnel and 70 laborers took part in the encroachment eviction operation. A BBMP release 4 JCBs and 12 tractors. The authorities have decided to put up a chain link fence to prevent any further encroachment.

The BBMP has moved to replace the six-year-old bylaw banning outdoor advertisements. Now with the creation of a new advertising policy, commercial advertising in Bengaluru is going to be a renaissance. The BBMP has come up with the move nearly a year after the Karnataka HC ruled in favor of outdoor advertisements on private premises by imposing certain restrictions. Sources said the Urban Development Department (UDD) is reviewing the draft policy to overrule the historic resolution passed by the BBMP Council in 2018. The government is likely to make an announcement about it in the state budget. As per the new policy, BBMP will give advertisement rights to higher bidders. The fee and size of hoarding are fixed based on the width of the road. No hoarding is allowed on footpaths. But advertisers have to negotiate with private property owners to install hoardings.
