The city is currently grappling with a safety concern as haphazardly constructed road humps in the central area have transformed into a potential accident zone.
Against the backdrop of the Paryaya event, extensive road repair and asphalting work have been initiated across various sections of city. However, amidst these developments, road humps have been hastily installed in the core of city, particularly in front of the Court Complex on Kavi Muddana Marg. This poorly executed installation has triggered public outcry, especially since the affected road is a major thoroughfare experiencing high volumes of both pedestrian and vehicular traffic.
This critical road, extending from Kinnimulki Swagata Gopura to locations such as old taluk office, Kalpana, Alankar, service and city bus stations, spans approximately 3 kilometres. Surprisingly, no road humps were present along this route until the abrupt and unprepared installation in front of the court complex.
The consequences of this rushed decision became evident on the very first day when a motorcyclist, unaware of the newly placed humps, skidded and suffered severe injuries, necessitating hospitalization. Within a few days, eight accidents have occurred in this area. One incident involved a car on last Thursday night, resulting in significant damage to the vehicle’s front upon colliding with the unanticipated hump.
In response to these incidents, there is a growing demand from the public for the prompt removal of these hazardous road humps, which pose a clear danger to motorists.
