Congress leader Rahul Gandhi launched the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in Manipur, promising to bring peace and harmony to the region affected by ethnic violence. The violence that erupted in May last year has claimed over 180 lives and displaced thousands.

Gandhi criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi, suggesting that Manipur may not be considered a part of India by the BJP and RSS, as Modi had not visited to address the crisis. Rahul Gandhi expressed empathy for the pain experienced by the people of Manipur and pledged to restore the state’s known harmony, peace, and affection.

The yatra will cover 6,713 km, spanning 100 Lok Sabha constituencies, 337 assembly segments, and 110 districts, concluding in Mumbai on March 20 after 67 days. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge also criticized Modi, accusing him of only seeking votes and failing to share the grief of Manipur’s people. He alleged that the BJP mixes religion and politics and urged against using religious chants for votes. The Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra aims to save the Constitution, democracy, and counter fascist forces, reflecting the Congress commitment to social justice, secularism, and equity.
