In a recent development, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has taken to social media to fact-check an edited video circulating on social media. The video, which has been attributed to former Telangana Minister KT Rama Rao (KTR), accuses the Congress of misleading the public. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah countered these claims, asserting that the video was manipulated by the BJP to create a false narrative. The edited video, recorded during the last day of the winter session of the Assembly in Belagavi, features a 12-second clip where Chief Minister Siddaramaiah appears to say, Where I will get money from? We promise during the elections. But, we cannot fulfil the promises. Former BJP ministers Dr. Ashwath Narayan and CT Ravi used this video to accuse the Chief Minister of admitting the lack of funds for Congress’ poll promises.
Chief Minister’s Response:
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah clarified on [X] (formerly Twitter) that the video was deceptively edited, taking his statement out of context. He explained that he was quoting former Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa in the Assembly, highlighting Yediyurappa’s acknowledgment in 2009 that the BJP did not have the resources to fulfill promises made during elections. Siddaramaiah emphasized that the BJP, both in 2008 and 2018, failed to deliver on its electoral commitments. This exchange underscores the growing use of social media as a platform for political messaging and the importance of fact-checking in the digital age.
