The Lok Adalat succeeded in reuniting 19 couples who had filed divorce petitions in the principal family court. The reunited couples were of different age groups.
Among them a couple married in 1993 had been living separately for the past 12 years due to differences. Principal District and Sessions Judge KG Shanti, who congratulated the reunited couple, said minor differences in married life are common, and divorce is not the only solution.
It affects both the families, and their children’s future. So divorce should be avoided, she said.
As many as 272 out of 1,005 cases pending in the Courts have been disposed of at the National Lok Adalat organised under the auspices of Karnataka High Court. Giving details of the outcome of the Lok Adalat, Senior Judge Justice S Sunildutt Yadav said most of the cases pertained to motor vehicles and matrimony. Lok Adalats are being held for the last 20 years. This year, 1,005 cases had been taken up for conciliation. Of them, 272 were disposed of, and a compensation of Rs 4,11,69,645 was ordered to be paid,” he said.
Five benches were set up to hear the cases with Senior Judges Justices HP Sandesh, Sanjivkumar Hanchate, Ramachandra Huddar and Vijayakumar Patil heading them. Justice Yadav said Civil and Criminal cases have been disposed of at the adalat. A 40-year-old civil dispute was settled following conciliation at the bench comprising Ramachandra Huddar and Vijayakumar Patil. Every time, cases pertaining to motor vehicle accidents used to be taken up for disposal at Lok Adalats. But this time, petitions where the government and local bodies are the plaintiffs were taken up and 22 such cases were settled.
