Today, at Vidhana Soudha, a momentous celebration marked the milestone of 100 crore women benefiting from Karnataka’s empowering Shakti Scheme. The event, presided over by the Hon’ble Chief Minister along with the esteemed Home and Transport Ministers, unfolded at the Banquet Hall, Vidhana Soudha, commemorating this monumental achievement. The Chief Minister awarded the prestigious Chief Minister Gold Medals to drivers from four STUs of Karnataka for their exceptional accident-free service. Among the distinguished recognitions, Smt. Ningavva Singadi, a senior citizen whose humble gesture of boarding a bus by bowing to its steps during the inauguration of the Shakti program on 11/06/2023, received a special felicitation from the Hon’ble Chief Minister, acknowledging her inspiring act. The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation, established under the RTC Act of 1950 on 1-8-1961, stands committed to delivering efficient and coordinated public transport services. Initially, a unified entity until 1996-97, KSRTC underwent division, leading to the formation of three additional corporations: BMTC (since 15-08-1997), NWKRTC (since 01-11-1997), and NEKRTC, now recognized as KKRTC (since 01-10-2000). The Shakti Scheme, a testament to Karnataka’s commitment to gender inclusivity in public transport, has significantly empowered women by providing them with safe, accessible, and subsidized travel options. This milestone of 100 crore women availing the scheme reflects the positive impact of initiatives aimed at fostering equality and accessibility in transportation.
